Playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on mobile is real, although you may not like it.
We have always imagined what a mobile phone would be like with the power of a next-generation console, like a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series.
At the moment we are very far from this possibility, although there are those who have managed to play the popular Rockstar game, Red Dead Redemption 2, on Android. But the result is far from offering an acceptable playable experience.
Smartphones are indeed becoming more powerful and proof of this is that we have adapted versions of console games on mobile phones. Two clear examples are Call of Duty: Warzone and Genshin Impact, although little by little there are more cases: Dragon Quest Builders, Life is Strange, GRIS, and many games in the Final Fantasy saga, among others.
The difference with Red Dead Redemption 2 is that Rockstar’s game has a vast open world with dimensions identical to that of Grand Theft Auto 5, so we are talking about one of the largest.
We must add the life that this world set in the Wild West has, with cities full of inhabitants and a thousand things to do, as well as random interactions along the map during your path. It is a game with very high requirements and that is why running Red Dead Redemption 2 on Android is a miracle.
Playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on a mobile is ‘possible’
The user who has achieved this milestone is Serg Pavlov, a content creator on YouTube, who has uploaded the result of the test to his channel. In the video description, he includes some of the features of the mobile phone he uses to play Red Dead Redemption 2.
It is the latest generation Red Magic 9 Pro with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB internal storage; Plus, it comes with Android 14 and claims to not root the phone, meaning anyone with the right knowledge can do it.
Of course, as long as the processor is the high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and is well optimized, as is the case with the Red Magic 9 Pro it is a gaming mobile.
The video playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on a mobile lasts about 10 minutes and moves throughout the city of Saint-Denis, one of the most lively cities in the game. The experience is not at all satisfactory, to tell the truth; The graphics are not even close to what a console offers, the resolution is 960×540 and the frame rate per second is 10 FPS when there are not many elements on the screen.
Furthermore, around minute 5 of the video, you can see how the game closes unexpectedly and when it suddenly starts to rain and Serg runs around the map there are drops to 6 FPS.
The gap between console and mobile games is still very large. This indeed is quite a step since until now it was unimaginable to even run a game with the potential of Red Dead Redemption 2 on Android. On iPhone we have begun to see video games with outstanding graphical demands, such as Death Stranding or Resident Evil, so who knows what the future holds for us in about 10 years.
